Skyway Review: This single instantly brings to mind Built to Spill, only without so much fancy guitar work. Kisswhistle, a quartet from a town near Pittsburgh, released this record themselves as the first item on their Savyour label. Every song here has that same kind of amateur charm that I love about Detour's stuff. Kisswhistle frontman Marc Pattini writes sweet songs filled with memorable lyrics: "You remind me of a bad magician who shows you all of his tricks." The fourth song, "Lifeguards and Repairmen," is definitely the best, as Marc sings with a surprising range about the need to be both saved and repaired. Despite their silly name and obsession with Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, Kisswhistle's debut should be taken seriously. In fact, they should be the talk of the indie pop scene.

about

Exclaim Magazine: Listening to Kisswhistle is like reading a good teen zine. The songs are intensely personal testimonials of important feelings full of intimacy and discovery. "If I told you what I thought, you'd probably lose all your pride" croons break up expert Marc Pattini in "Gumb." Luckily, these revelations are balanced by Kisswhistle's sense of humor and choruses of "boo-hoo's" and "whoah-oh's" Their song "Lifeguards & Repairmen" is a touching ode to the service industry. While Kisswhistle may not be the most sophisticated musicians around, I'll bet with songs like these, they'll soon be the toast of Cranberry, Pennsylvania.

From All Music Guide: Formed by guitarist/vocalist/frontman Marc Pattini, the indie pop three-piece of Kisswhistle was taken up as a college hobby upon their Penn State beginnings in 1996. But after dropping out of school in 1997, the band became a full-time responsibility with Pattini being accompanied by John Lancia (drums) and Pat "Marshall" Cary (bass). ... more
